Super Mario Party Jamboree

I have to say, I absolutely love Super Mario Party Jamboree. It’s one of those games that brings out the best (and maybe a little bit of the worst) in everyone during game nights, and it’s become a staple whenever I’m hanging out with friends. Whether we’re laughing at someone getting sabotaged or holding our breath in a heated mini-game, it’s just pure funWhy we love it:Perfect for Game NightsThis game just gets the vibe right. It’s easy for anyone to jump into, whether they’re a hardcore gamer or someone who barely touches a controller. I’ve played with people who had never touched a Switch before, and within minutes they were fully into it, trash-talking and scheming like pros.The Mini-Games Are Top-TierHonestly, the mini-games are where the magic happens. They’re so creative and varied! I love that you can go from racing each other to blowing up balloons or coordinating as a team to navigate obstacles. There’s always something unexpected, and it keeps the energy up all night. Some are simple and silly, while others actually require strategy or quick thinking, so everyone has a chance to shine (or crash and burn hilariously).The Mario CharmIt’s exactly what you’d expect from a Mario game—bright, colorful, and so full of personality. The little details, like character reactions or the music, really pull you into the party vibe. Even when I’m losing, I can’t help but smile (okay, maybe after the game is over).Different Modes Keep It FreshI really like the different ways you can play. The regular board game mode is obviously the main attraction, but the co-op stuff like River Survival is so fun if you want to team up instead of just wrecking each other. It’s nice to have the option to mix things up.What Could Be Better:Now, as much as I love the game, there are a few things I wish were different:Not Enough BoardsThe boards are fun, don’t get me wrong, but there aren’t enough of them. After a few sessions, we’ve already played through them all, and it feels like we’re recycling the same experiences. A couple of extra boards would make a huge difference.Luck vs. SkillLook, I know luck is part of the charm of Mario Party, but sometimes it can feel like it’s too much. You can absolutely crush the mini-games, strategize, and still lose because someone landed on a lucky space or got a random bonus star. It’s funny sometimes, but it can also feel like all your effort was pointless.

And if you’re not ready to be bested by your cousin in Rhythm Kitchen, then maybe you can enjoy watching your 5-year-old rock out as they whip up the latest virtual dish. (Shoutout to my little Yoshi fan, who absolutely nails those rhythm challenges.)Multiplayer Madness The multiplayer is where this game truly shines. It’s a Mario Party game, so expect the competition to get as fierce as a Bowser boss battle. With the addition of a 20-player Koopathlon mode, there’s never a shortage of ways to flex your party skills, but if you’re looking for something more traditional, the board games won’t disappoint. Just beware—to get the best from these, they can run a bit long (2 hours+), and the shifting tides of victory can leave you feeling like you’ve just been struck by a Dualling Glove when you least expect it. But hey, that’s the beauty of Mario Party, right?New Stuff I’ve got to shout out the New Stuff to the new modes: Rhythm Kitchen, Toad’s Item Factory, and Paratroopa Flight School. Toad’s Item Factory is a blast—though the limited levels mean, you’ll probably wrap it up quickly—while the Rhythm Kitchen stands out as the true family favourite. It’s easy to pick up but challenging enough that even seasoned players get a kick out of it. Plus, there’s something about the rhythmic chaos that appeals to every age group, especially when it’s combined with some funky tunes. And the motion-based minigames? It’s always a hit—except when they make you spin like you’re on a Mario Kart track, but hey, it’s part of the fun.Kid-Friendly, Parent-Approved Speaking of families, my 5-year-old loves playing as Yoshi and Peach, and now Spike (yes, Spike, he is back). The mini-games are engaging enough to keep her invested, but some of the Jamboree Buddy challenges? Yeah, they’re a bit much for little hands. But that’s okay—there’s more than enough here to keep even the youngest players coming back for more.The Party’s Still Online, Though Now, there’s one caveat: the game does require Nintendo Online to unlock its full potential. That might not be an issue for hardcore fans, but you won’t be playing those games if you’re looking for a quick family game night. On the flip side, the local play is fantastic—this is a game built for couch co-op, and it delivers that in spades.The Verdict In the end, what’s not to love? Super Mario Jamboree is the ultimate Mario Party experience. It’s packed with enough mini-games, boards, and modes to keep things fresh, and the multiplayer chaos is as fun (and unpredictable) as ever. Picked up this game along with my Switch 2 console. This is one of my favourite Switch games so far and I'm loving the variety of mini-games to play. Looking forward to trying out the Switch 2 upgrade.
