Lovejoy - Complete Series 5 [DVD] [2005]

looking at the TV schedules over the last 4-5 years my wife and i just watch the news and weather then turn the thing off!we are in our 70s and although we have hundreds of *entertainment* programs to choose from we just cannot watch the rubbish on the box.so,the solution? is to buy a DVD like this Lovejoy (also DVDs of Heartbeat and Hi-De-Hi*) Lovejoy had the cast right from the start Lady Jane.Charlie Gimbert,Tinker,Chuffy etc.the character Eric was our favourite with Lovejoy himself,sorely missed Eric in the last series.this was also the time when there were intelligent script writers,sadly missing nowadays.

Making it to series 5 is usually good going for a BBC light entertainment programme, six series were made in total of Lovejoy, and though in this series episodes are not what they were, its still well worth watching. There are the departures of Lady Jane and Eric to be ably replaced by Caroline Langrishe as the "posh totty" with whom Lovejoy does share a romance and Diane Parish delightful as another trainee to ask questions to progress the plot. Personally I felt Eric's departure could have been written more sympathetically and was rushed. The series ends on a feature length special in Southern American states where Lovejoy gets to work with another costar from his time on Dallas.Both the newcomers do well but the best efforts of all the cast even including a sprinkling of quality guest stars cannot disguise the fact that the scripts and plots have of lesser quality with a sense of laziness and, unsurprisingly, repetition is creeping in.Having said all that enough of the old magic is still there, the scenery is still good so all things considered there is still much to enjoy. On the whole, most episodes do work so in my opinion this is still a perfectly amiable way to spend a hour and I do not regret buying this series.

All the Dvd's worked but the condition was not quite as described. It was definitely more 'worn' than 'good' but happy with product overall.

This was a great dvd, I loved the series thank you for providing it, I will watch it over and over.
